Looking for fun indoor games and activities for kids to burn off energy? Check out our top picks for games and activities that will keep your kids moving and entertained, even when they’re stuck inside. From classic games like Twister and Simon Says to DIY obstacle courses and dance parties, we’ve got plenty of ideas to help your kids stay active and engaged.

We all know how important it is to keep our kids active and engaged, especially when they’re stuck indoors. With so many gadgets and screens to distract them, it can be tough to get them moving and burning off energy. But fear not, because we’ve compiled a list of the best and most fun indoor games and activities that will keep your kids entertained and active. Let’s get started!

1. Obstacle Course

Create an indoor obstacle course using everyday objects like pillows, cushions, and furniture. Encourage your kids to crawl under chairs, jump over pillows, and zigzag around furniture to complete the course. This game is not only fun, but it also helps improve coordination, balance, and strength.

2. Dance Party

One of our favourite fun indoor games and activities for kids to burn energy is dancing! Put on some upbeat music and get the whole family dancing. You can even create a dance routine together, and then perform it for each other. Dancing is a great way to get your heart rate up and burn off excess energy.

3. Indoor Bowling

Create your own indoor bowling alley using empty water bottles and a ball. Set up the bottles in a triangle formation and take turns rolling the ball to see who can knock down the most pins. This game is not only fun, but it also helps improve hand-eye coordination.

4. Simon Says

This classic game is a great way to get kids moving and listening carefully. Take turns being the leader and calling out actions like “Simon says jump on one foot” or “Simon says do a silly dance.” Any actions called out without “Simon says” at the beginning don’t count, so it’s important to listen carefully.

5. Balloon Volleyball

Blow up a balloon and use it as a volleyball. This game can be played solo or with a partner, and it’s a great way to improve hand-eye coordination and burn off energy.

6. Indoor Scavenger Hunt

Create a list of items for your kids to find around the house, and then set them loose on a scavenger hunt. You can even make it more challenging by adding clues or riddles to solve. This game is not only fun, but it also helps improve problem-solving skills.

7. Yoga

Yoga is a great way to improve flexibility, balance, and strength. You can find many kid-friendly yoga videos online that you can follow along with. It’s a fun and relaxing way to get your kids moving and burning off energy.

8. Hallway Soccer

Create a makeshift soccer field in your hallway using masking tape or string to mark off the boundaries. Use a soft ball, and take turns trying to score goals. This game is not only fun, but it also helps improve coordination and balance.

9. Indoor Hopscotch

Create a hopscotch board using masking tape on your floor. Take turns hopping through the board, and see who can make it to the end without stepping on the lines. This game is a great way to improve balance and coordination.

Children love to play. Just ask any three year old what he or she wants to do. The answer most of the time is “I want to play”. There are limitless opportunities to create a play scenario. We always enjoy seeing the endless imagination of kids whether is playing with cars, trains, making a smoothie or pancakes. If you’re lucky and live in a warmer climate, outdoors playing is best. However, if you’re stuck in the colder months, there’s no better way than creating a theatre at home. The aim of this post is to cover how to create a children’s theatre at home that involves no cost, it’s hassle free to set up and provides lots of entertaining for both the kids and the parents.

There are mainly four areas to make a fun and engaging theatre.

Create a captivating story.

The first aspect of creating a children’s theatre at home is a good story. In fact, a great story always captivates the little minds and keeps them engaged for longer period of time. If you don’t have one in mind, you can base your home theatre story on a few favourite books. For example, if your children love Thomas The Train or other educational books, build your story around those characters. This will help your children relate to the story from the start, recognizing names of characters, sounds and setting.

Involve children from the start.

Don’t wait for the children to be involved at a later time in the actual play. It’s best to start with their input about the actual story. For example, ask them what they’ll like to interact with, what characters, how they should be interacting with others in the story, the placement of toys, cars, etc. This helps the children relate to the story in more detail. No only that but they’ll feel that it is their story, their play, their “real life” experience. What better way to start getting your kids input from an earlier age.

Let them be kids.

Children’s imagination is a wonderful thing. Given our hectic lives, we as adults, forget how to exercise this gift. Let them be kids. Don’t patronize them. It’s always important to “go with the flow” and not be strict about following a particular story perfectly. That’s the beauty about child play. Also, whether the children are loud or quiet, it doesn’t matter. Go with the story line and let them be kids.

Set up a simple stage.

You can set up a simple stage in minutes. This can be done by having some play mats in the shape of a square. Set one chair at each end and then use a blanket as a curtain. If you like to have an open stage, you can create a raised stage by having a few sturdy boxes side by side. One simple way to create a stage for children’s theatre at home is to use your couch’s cushions on the floor. You can also use a deem light or a spotlight if you wish. Just make it simple and fun. Don’t overcomplicate things.

Bonus: Take the children to an actual theatre play.

Keep an eye for a children theatre production in your town. It’s a great way to spend a few hours especially if you’ve never taken the kids before. This way the kids can relate even further to playing theatre at home. At times you may be able to get in a free show or a great deal on a theatre production so it doesn’t have to be expensive. Here you have it: the easy way on how to create a children’s theatre at home.

Pleas share with us some other ideas on how to create a children’s theatre at home. What works well from your experience as a parent? What did children love?

Here’s a fun craft activity that you can do with your toddler, making slippers! Most of the information available looks at making toddler slippers from various materials such as cloth or fleece and having different (and difficult) quilted slipper patterns. However, we like to keep it very simple, fun and cost effective.

So, how to make toddler slippers fun?

Step 1

Find any piece of cardboard around the house. This can be a shoebox or anything that is somewhat durable. Your toddler may want to wear the new slippers around, so use a sturdier material if possible.

Step 2

Trace your child’s foot with a pencil on the cardboard. Once you have both feet traced, cut around the area. Remember those hand tracing colouring activities? Same idea applies here. Simple. Fun.

Step 3

Make 4 holes: 2 on the top and 2 about 1 inch from the top ones. See the photo below for more details. It’s also wise to measure your toddler’s foot here. Just cut off the slippers you made and you can pencil in the holes at the appropriate distance. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s a fun activity here after all.

Step 4

Get 2 elastic bands and tie them across each other. You can use different colours here if available to make it more fun. And you’re done. How easy was that?

Here you have it: how to make toddler slippers. This simple, fun and creative way to make slippers for your toddlers is a great way to spend time with you kids when doing crafts. For more fun, you can get the kids to colour the slippers different shades or a solid colour that they may like. The time it takes can be anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 minutes, depending on how fun you want to make the process.

Who says that making toddler slippers needs to be complicated, expensive and time consuming? Follow the steps above and get your kids a new pair of slippers in no time. What about you? Are there any other ways on how to make toddler slippers? What are your fun craft activities when it comes to slippers or shoes for your toddlers? Please comment below so we can all learn from each other.

As parents, we always think of ideas for children playing outside. Being outdoors is a great way for kids to explore and learn the world around them. Best of it, it’s free. So what are some of the cool ideas for children to play outside whether is in your own garden, backyard or at the local park? Let’s look at what some cost effective ways to get the kids out to have a lot of fun.

Fun Ideas for Kids Playing Outside

Learning Colours:

What fun, hunting around for colourful toys while learning colours with your toddler! For this, we recommend hiding a few colourful eggs or smaller toys. You can hide these toys in a garden bush, garage or just outside the house. One way to encourage learning is to actually have two of everything so that you can pull one toy from a bag and go hunting for the same object. This will make it easier for your toddler to identify the object and colour. You can easily spend 45 minutes to 1 hour just playing around learning colours outside.

Obstacle Course:

You can easily create an obstacle course in your backyard. For example, you can use your garden hose, jam ropes and a few garbage bags. The kids can jump in the garbage bag and start walking around, trying to get through different obstacles that you set up. Another suggestion is to use bigger toys such as trucks or different toy sets and get the kids to through a ball around them. Lots of fun here and you can create endless obstacles.

Water Park / Swimming:

What toddler doesn’t like to play in the water? One of the best ways to teach your kids how to swim is to get them to the local swimming pool. Although some charge a free, this is minimal and for the fun to be had, it’s worth the price. You’ll be able to teach your toddler how to swim and at the same time make a day out of it by splashing around. Look out for your neighbourhood parks also as some of them offer a small water play area. No admission fee here, so you can stroll around and also have a water play session. Fun, fun.

Aquarium Visit:

This is not a free activity but we though we’ll include it as it makes such as great way to spend the day teaching our children about different types of fish, colours, shapes, and sizes. Ideally, you’ll want to have your kids a bit older to be able to appreciate the aquarium. We took Noah when he was under 1 year old. Nevertheless, we all had fun. Watch out for discounts as some of the aquariums may offer special prices during certain hours and time of the week.

Fire Station Visit:

What a cool way to learn about fire trucks! Visit your fire station and ask if you can spend 15 minutes around the truck. I would argue that most would agree to it as it serves as an educational purpose. You can go over the details of the truck from the outside, so you don’t need to actually go inside the truck. I see this as great educational session for the kids especially if they have a firetruck toy. You can also do visit a police station or a hospital to look at an ambulance briefly.

Winter activities for kids

If you’re lucky to live in a place that gets snow, what better way to have fun than getting outside. Winter activities for kids are endless. You can go for a walk. You can build a snowman. You can get the kids on a sleigh ride.

Another free winter activity that we enjoyed recently is to take the kids to a ski hill, ski area near you. Although you don’t necessarily have to teach them skiing or snowboarding, you can easily spend a few hours playing in the snow and exploring the area around. Best thing, it’s free and a good walk around will work out a good appetite for later as well as a good afternoon nap!

The above are some ideas for children playing outside. Of course you can build a slide and an entire playground in your backyard if you have the budget and time. We always think that taking the kids out and showing them around is also beneficial for their learning abilities. So whether you like to play in your own backyard hunting colourful toys, go swimming or go over a fire truck, the choices are up to you. Best thing of all, most of these actives are free or cost very little at best. So get out and enjoy it. We’re sure that your kids will too!

What are some of your children’s favourite activities outdoors? What learning activities are fun and educational? We’ll love to hear other ideas for children playing outside so please let us know in the comments below.
